When shopping for a backhoe for sale, the buyer stands to save a substantial amount of money when compared to buying heavy equipment in new condition. But even though huge savings can be obtained, buyers should still be ever vigilant about what they’re actually getting themselves into.

The backhoe for sale should be taken for a test drive to ensure it is functioning as advertised and as expected for the buyer’s needs. Particular focus should be on whether or not there are any mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic concerns.

Clean heavy equipment makes for long-lasting functional equipment. But it can also be used to hide defects. For example, new paint can take years off a backhoe, but it could also cover up rusted areas, which can be a sign of a much larger issue. Proper inspection of valves and hoses should be taken before and after the backhoe is test driven to isolate any fluid leaks.

When a heavy equipment seller has a backhoe for sale, or any type of heavy equipment for that matter, the buyer is highly advised to do some research on the dealer’s business history. Reputable dealers should have a positive background, but also be willing to offer a service contract should unknown issues arise. First-time buyers are also advised to obtain a checklist either from the dealer or independently so as not to overlook important areas of interest.

The seller should also perform a search on the Internet for the backhoe they’re looking to purchase. This is a convenient and informative way of identifying commonly known defects and expected behavior after use.

The backhoe loader, commonly known as just a backhoe, is one of the most versatile pieces of heavy equipment you’ll find in small construction environments. It’s main body is a tractor with a backhoe on the back and a bucket or shovel on the articulated arm located on the front of the machine. It’s small size makes it ideal for fixing roads or houses.

The backhoe is built for a variety of tasks such as light transportation of building materials, digging and excavating, paving roads, landscaping, construction, and small demolition. One of the things that make the backhoe such a versatile heavy equipment tool is its wide selection of backhoe parts to choose from. The bucket can be replaced with other attachments like an auger, stump grinder, grapple, or breaker, plate compactors, buckets, and packer wheels. Many backhoes have quick-attach mounting systems that simplify the process of mounting attachments, thus greatly enhancing the machine’s job site performance.

Some well-known manufacturers of the backhoe loader are: John Deere, Ford, and Caterpillar. Another manufacturer, Kubota, has produced a compact tractor that has become very popular among home owners, thus allowing them to work in confined spaces while doing things like small excavation projects.

For a company in the construction industry to be successful, they must train their employees in heavy equipment training. Same goes any industry that uses heavy equipment: excavation, disaster recovery, forestry, etc. The types of equipment used in these industries are as varied in their use as their are in the knowledge that is needed to operate them. No matter if the equipment is portable and light or weighing tons and several stories high, the right training can make the difference between a company with a profit and one that risks the lives of those who work for them.

Types of equipment requiring some form of nationally recognized heavy equipment training are: scrapers, bulldozers, ditching digging shovels, excavators, graders, dump trucks and more. Properly trained operators mean more confident workers, which results in increased productivity and safety, which results in fulfilling the employers dependence on revenue brought on by this type of work.

Some heavy equipment training can be taken through reading course material. This can help potential operators get an idea of whether the line of work they’re entering into is right for them, plus it affords them the opportunity to continue with their day job in some cases. But in the end, reading a book on how to operate a crane is no substitute for real-life training from a school.

However, given the nature of the type of training, there are demands that are not found in other types of schooling. For example, large amounts of land are required to move the equipment being trained on. There are also certifications and permits that training schools can only get if they’re located in certain areas of the state. Ultimately, this means only the most interested in this type of training will have to make larger sacrifices by moving to these sometimes remote areas if they wish to pursue a career that uses heavy equipment.

Heavy Equipment Salvage

You can find heavy equipment, such as graders, dozers, back hoes, lots more at heavy equipment salvage yards. These are especially useful when looking for hard-to-find parts or parts that are no longer being manufactured at a fraction of the cost. Conversely, if you have parts or complete machines that you don’t need any more, you can score money to take the item(s) off your hands. It also helps reduce the act of unnecessarily filling landfills with equipment that could be put to better use — and profit.

Before the Internet, the business of heavy equipment salvage was an arduous task. In addition to the slow communications that were par for the course, it was difficult for the buyer to know what they were actually paying for. This meant they had to visit the yards of piled up machinery and parts to really get an idea if it was the right thing to begin with and worth the price.

But now, through the magic of the Web, you can get photos quickly. You can do more effective research by comparing what you find before deciding where your company’s money is to be spent. In most cases, a used part is as good as a new one. And sometimes you’re even able to view video clips of the heavy equipment in action. It can be a real sales booster when you have these kinds of tools at your disposal.

Companies specializing in heavy equipment salvage are often networked in some manner. This can be advantageous to both buyer and seller. The seller has increased chances of finding what he’s looking for at a much lower price than if it were brand new. The buyer can make a sale, on the other hand, while moving parts that are taking up space and could be burdensome to maintain.

The maker of Caterpillar heavy equipment, Caterpillar Inc., produces over 300 high-quality machines. Donning the company’s signature color of gold, these rugged machines are designed to move or transport earth, hoist large objects, clear debris, just to name a few of their wide range of capabilities.

A commonly used machine is the wheel dozer, a high-production workhorse that combines the capabilities of track-type tractors. They’re capable of scraping the bulk of materials such as dirt or sand from surfaces, and moving and carrying just about anything that can fit into its bucket.

The 814F Series 2 Wheel Dozer, one of the many top-performing Caterpillar heavy equipment family of products, has a very comfortable operator station. This is an enclosed “cockpit” that protects the operator from outside debris. With a 360 degree view, operators stress levels are reduced and therefore more productive. Using an advanced diagnostic system that monitors key machine functionality, the operator is notified whenever there is a problem.

The operator can easily view several types of gauges that convey fuel level, hydraulic oil, engine coolant temperature, engine RPM, and more. This dozer even provides for convenient storage space that can be utilized for lunch box stowaway, cup holder, and other personal items.

Recently, Jim Owens, CEO and chairman the U.S. construction company, spoke to reporters in Beijing, and indicated that he did not expect the U.S. housing market to pick up substantially until 2010.

Like other products made by Caterpillar, robotic welding is used on up to 90 percent of the 814F Series 2. Castings in several areas increase strength that spread loads and reduce the number of parts. This process results in consistent welds with deep plate penetration fusion providing for increased durability and fatigue strength. The computer controlled machining ensures the alignment of pin bore, axle pad, cab mount and transmission/engine components.
